Tralee Classic Games – Rd9
I guess it is nice to end such a bad tournament performance with a win, and a nice win all the better, but here I was rather lucky in the opening after some careless and lazy play which allowed Black seize the initiative early on and put me in a difficult position just a few moves into the game. In the position below I played the far too casual a3 and after e6! I was already not likely to have any advantage.
After a few more moves in which I was trying to wriggle and confuse Black I got a bit of a break when he went wrong and allowed me to even have a slight edge starting from the position below:
The end phase was actually nice enough to play and did require some accurate play which was not without it’s nice points too.
