Tralee Classic Games – Rd7
Some small measure of sanity restored with some redemption too after gifting three wins away needlessly the previous rounds. Killian played on principle and renewed our battle in the classical Kings Indian, following our game from the 2016 Irish ch when we both played the opening rather poorly, had missed clear winning chances at different points and in the end, resulted in a lucky win for me in a drawn endgame.
Since then I recently had a nice clean win against Henry Li in Cork but today I played the same as I had played against Kilian from 2016 and then deviated with a curious move that should not be objectively all that good but which forces black to think for himself. At first, Killian played the right moves but then he seemed to get uncomfortable and seemingly nervous about my possible preparation (which I did not use today) made some mistakes and had an awful position surprisingly quickly before blundering on move 26 in the position below:
I have not made any observations about the other games and players fortunes since a few rounds now becaue thankfully there is very good updated coverage on the ICU website by John McMorrow and maybe Rory Delaney?
Anyway the reports are mostly very good with plenty of things covered, even though it can also be hit and miss and some of the evaluations of the play or what went on in the games is rather surreal and comical. Sometimes bearing no relationship with what actually transpired or the reality of some situations.
I mean to say that, I noticed this mainly with my own games of course, but it does happen with others too. However that is a minor gripe and people can see the games themselves. and in my case. read my own accounts to see how games actually went.
