Mindgames Blitz 2017 – Some Observations
A fun and exciting event that had plenty of drama and twists and turns that was at times a bit of a roller coaster ride for me personally as I made crucial errors in the two games I lost. One in which I was level more or less the whole way through the game against Alex Lopez The game can be seen and played through by clicking on the diagram below.
The other in which I was completely winning and dominating on the board and the clock with a minute time advantage and two pawns up for nothing in an easily winning endgame against Killian Delaney. Again the game can be seen and played through by clicking the diagram below. Not quite a repeat of my loss to him when he won the Irish blitz championships last year when I had also been winning before blundering, this was much worse and as tragic s it was comical. See for yourself with White to play.
That was about the extent of my misfortune as although I dropped a half point early on, I still managed to win the rest of my games, albeit not without some stress and very tense moments. The great thing about blitz chess though, is that it is all over very quickly and regardless of good or bad results, the games can, in their own, way be enjoyed with an almost carefree abandon at times.
