What are the best playing programs and what are the best chess database management programs?
Basically there are three main database management programs
- Chess Assistant
As for playing programs/engines there are so many with various features and strengths. From the point of view of practical chess players and the vast majority of players just using these programs on their phones, tablets or personal computers, they are all strong enough for it not to matter too much, or at all, which one is used. Main thing, is to leave them running long enough to settle on a decent evaluation, which in any case should be seen as an excellent guide but not always an absolute final say on a position.
I will offer some of my own suggestions on the use of both engines/playing programs and database management programs and hopefully that might be of some use or interest to a broad spectrum of chess players,.
I am also curious to see what others think about what is currently available and what aspects interest them the most.
